2021 dates tbc
Our day retreats are built around a beginner surf lesson, giving you the chance to get your feet in the wax for the first time; a yoga session to relax your body and mind; and a recovery focused workshop exploring how to manage worries about cancer returning. There will be multiple opportunities to connect with others who have gone through similar experiences; a delectable array of food to keep your energy levels topped up; alongside other wellbeing activities giving time and space for reflection.
Our retreats run from our main base on Towan Beach, where we partner with Newquay Activity Centre, the perfect spot to catch some beautiful beginner waves. Workshops and wellbeing sessions will take place between the stunning 12 Beach Road and Yoga Garden spaces. Yoga lessons will be given by Morven Hamilton from Yoga by Nature, former teacher and facilitator for Penny Brohn Cancer Care and creator of the Yoga for Cancer teacher training program.
What To Expect
Our day retreats will be scheduled around the tides to ensure you have the best possible surf experience, so there may be slight variation in your itinerary. However, a typical retreat day will look like this:
9am – Welcome Coffee / Meet & Greet
10.30am – Surf Lesson
1pm – Lunch
2pm – Recovery-Focused Workshop
4pm – Movement & Mindfulness
5.30pm – Closing Ceremony & Reflection
This cost includes all surf and yoga lessons and equipment, your recovery workshop, a breakfast coffee & pastry and a closing ceremony refreshment. We are working with local caterers to ensure that you are fuelled up with tasty, nourishing food so that you are ready for everything the weekend has to offer. Any dietary requests can be catered for too, so just let us know what you need.
We strongly believe that our retreats should be accessible to all, which is why we are working closely with our partner agencies to provide subsidised costs for attending. If you need funding support in order to attend, please do not hesitate to contact us as we wouldn’t want this to be a reason for you not to join us.
The retreats are open to any adult (18y+) who finished their treatment at least 6 months ago or is stable on maintenance hormone treatment. This is a flexible time frame that aims to allow for you to re-build some of your physical mobility post treatment, which will be needed to join the surf and yoga sessions. Please take a look at the Surfing information to help you think about when would be a good time for you to join us. If you think that you would be able to join us sooner post-treatment, then get in touch and we can talk this through with you. We are able to tailor these sessions to support participation, for example help with carrying equipment, additional breaks to manage fatigue, adaptation of exercises and so on, but we ask that you please discuss with your medical teams to ensure they are happy for you to join prior to you attending.
You are very welcome to bring a supporter with you if you wish, just let us know and we can arrange this with you.
If you are travelling from further afield we can help with accommodation recommendations, should you wish to extend your trip.
If you would like to chat through any questions you might have about the retreats, or specific needs we might need to support you with, please get in touch and we will do all we can to enable you to attend.
